Andrei Matorin by Daria Huxley

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Andrei Matorin spent his early years studying violin and theory in Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. Since he began performing professionally at the age of 15 he has had the pleasure of collaborating with a diverse list of some of music’s most established and influential artists including Paquito D’Rivera, Bob Moses, Christian Scott, Curtis Fuller, among others.

In his young career he has performed and been featured as a soloist at such prestigious institutions and festivals as The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The MoMA and The Litchfield Jazz Festival. While rooted in the classical and jazz traditions, his music is influenced by modern dance and grooves to create infectious new sonic landscapes often using sound effects and loops.

Matorin is quickly making a name for himself as an emerging force in music both as performer and composer.
